the worst decade ever?

by Jamie Eslinger on January 4, 2010

Time Magazine labeled the 00’s the worst decade ever, or rather, The Decade from Hell in The ’00s: Goodbye (at Last) to the Decade from Hell. Well, okay. It was pretty bad.

In starting fresh and anew with this decade (call it what you will, the teens, the aughts, what have you) may I point out that sometimes the worst mistakes produce the deepest learning and ultimately best outcomes. We learn from “fudging up” if I may quote the blockbuster and side-splittingly funny movie The Hangover where a few guys learn from their entertaining and over the top Vegas mistakes.

In the spirit of all this learning, I say we all have a good laugh at the past decade and move on.

Marketing Sling:  It happens. Sometimes your program, product or launch gets all fudged up. Take time to learn from the mistake and dig deep to find the root problem and make a change.

May the new decade begin.

Hi Jamie! Nice note. I agree normally when something bad happens it leads to improvement. But I think this last decade is going to be an exception, at least when applied to the nation as whole. This is because while some people learn and improve from their mistakes, and other people do not, nations as a whole rarely learn, or at least learn less efficiently. I’m looking forward to this decade, but it’s largely because of the technological growth due to collaborative nature of the world today, not because nations as a whole will have learned any lessons.
Cheers
